2022 target for version 1.8.4 release
The initial design goal of keeping it "simple" is a major challenge. PKI and certificates are anything but simple, and although WebCert is not meant to be a full-blown CA, it certainly starts to add more CA functionality.
Functions Wishlist:
At least one of the following features should make it:
- Implementation of OCSP
- Implementation of a CA blacklist function into the certificate validation
- The certificate validation of remote servers will include a DNS name matching check against CN and AltSubjectName values

WebCert celebrates its 10 Years anniversary: WebCert was first conceived in the spring of 2003, going live in June. It is amazing how a quickly "hacked", small tool can live on and continue to grow over a full decade. X509 certificates caught on in the industry, they grew in numbers and importance. This constantly pushed the need for improving management and adding new functionality to WebCert.
